As a parent of two children myself, I have experienced first hand the challenges of helping them make informed career decisions. And from conversations with other parents, I know that many others have struggled and felt ill equipped to help effectively when their children raise the subject.

I’m Carolyn Parry and as a recognised career coach and national trainer of career coaching techniques, I know just how important it is to get reliable, unbiased information before making decisions about which courses or training to apply for and which career path to choose.

My understanding and passion for career guidance and coaching runs deep, and stems originally from my own career crisis after seventeen years of working in industry, which led me to retrain as a university careers adviser.

Almost twenty years on and I am still as passionate  as ever about the importance of high quality career choice support.

I already run Career Alchemy, an award winning career coaching and training organisation, which helps university graduates just starting out, as well as frustrated professionals who find themselves in the wrong place and wanting to change career direction, to create happy and successful working lives on their terms.

It is fair to say that most of this work is focused on cure.

Having had significantly increasing numbers of career coaching conversations with lost and confused students and graduates both now and while I worked at a leading British University, combined with changes to funding and training paths and options for 18 year olds, I vowed to get involved with prevention rather than just cure so that young people can create effective working lives which reflect who they are and the contribution they want to make.

So when Chris Speedy, the founder of Careers Advice for Parents, indicated in December 2016 that he wanted to pass the site over someone else, I jumped at the chance to become its custodian and continue the good work he has already done.

There are many sites which are very helpful if you’re wanting to research a specific topic and, sadly, there are many that overwhelm their visitors with so much information that it is difficult to make sense of it all.

Careers Advice for Parents aims to give you an easy-to-read overview of all the essential facts on finding jobs and apprenticeships or choosing further and higher education courses which could make a real difference to your child’s future career prospects.

If you are a regular user, rest assured, Careers Advice for Parents will continue to provide, free of charge, all the essential information which young people, parents and teachers need in a format that is easy to follow and understand as it has done to date.

As time progresses, we will be offering additional options for personal support, should you choose these so that you can support your child confidently and effectively in identifying and progressing their choices.

We welcome your comments and feedback as Careers Advice for Parents continues to develops.

Best regards
